What Our General Manager Says

The 3rd quarter of 2018 is very significant in the Rural Electrification program of our Cooperative because every 2nd Sunday of July, as stated in the Constitution and By-Laws this is the 36th Annual General Membership Assembly. It was conducted last July 8, 2018 in 2 separate venues namely, the North Cotabato Provincial Gymnasium and the Municipality of Magpet Gymnasium, thru video linkages using our newly installed fiber optic connectivity. This enabled COTELCO to maximize membership participation, in fact attendance records showed 16,000 member-consumers. It is a record-breaking for COTELCO. We will be expecting more for the next year’s activity.
The month of August is declared by NEA as the National Electrification Awareness Month (NEAM). Its commencement is always the conduct of National Electrification Week every 1st week of August. During this event, Electric Cooperatives that are excellently performing last 2016’s Key Performance Indicators are recognized. COTELCO’s recognition as a Top Performing Electric Cooperative garnering a 100% total points in all the parameters set forth by NEA is a first time and indeed a laudable achievement for our Cooperative. This is the fruit of all employees, officers and our member-consumers-owners religiously patronizing our electrification program.
Also included in the culmination of NEAM is the simultaneous nationwide Tree Planting Activity held at Amas Reservation Area, Kidapawan City as well as the Nationwide Line Clearing Activity last August 31, 2018. People from Area Maintenance Group together with the Technical Services Department joined forces and cleared areas from Kidapawan City Poblacion to Barangay Ilomavis.
At 6:00 in the evening of August 31, the final highlight is our Candle Lighting Program depicting the cry and demand of all Electric Cooperatives to the National Government to increase the budget for Sitio Electrification Program (SEP). This feat emanated from the act of the DOE Secretary opposing the increase of the budget. For COTELCO, there is still 331 sitios in dire need of funds/subsidy from the Government in order to attain total electrification program in 2022.
Electric Cooperatives in Region 12 included in the Central Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (CEMRECA) hosted the 1st PHILRECA-PHILFECO Joint Convention held at General Santos City last August 16-18, 2018. The event was a successful one with the gathering of 120 out of 121 registered Electric Cooperatives gearing towards a universal theme: “The One EC-MCO Movement: United We Stand Divided We Fall” which will pave way for a strong PHILRECA-PHILFECO alliance under the leadership of our supremo, Administrator Edgardo Rama Masongsong.
We need government support to continue energizing unviable and unserved sitios. Electrification is their clamor for so long already and this cannot be realized if funding is not available. Yes, these are unviable but it is our mandate to help them…let us help them because by electrifying house connection, we are giving hope to every Filipino family.
